Program Description
All Levels Of Princeton Youth Hockey Receive The Following:
- Two practices per week and a regular schedule of games (average of one home game per weekend in season).
- Mite and Squirt teams will participate in a Jamboree at the beginning of the season hosted by NJYHL (Dates TBD) to determine competitive level of play.
- Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee teams will participate in “Skills and Drills Clinics” which are run by the Princeton University Men’s and Women’s hockey teams.
- Full time goalies will be offered Goalie training throughout the season either in addition to or during their regular team practice.
- All teams will participate in Power Skating/Skills Clinics either in addition to or during regular season practices.
- Up to two tournaments per team at the Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam levels. Midget and Mite teams have one tournament included per team. Midget teams usually attend a tournament over Labor Day weekend, but it is up to the coaches discretion.
- All players will receive 4 tickets per player to attend one Princeton University Men’s Hockey game with their team.
- All players will receive one ticket to attend the season ending banquet.
- Uniforms and socks need to be purchased separately.
- A team/individual photo package is included in the registration fee.
- All players annual USA Hockey Membership is NOT included. USA Hockey mandates that all players register directly with USA Hockey and share their IMR number with PYHA once placed on a team (after May 1st). Additional instructions will follow at that time.
- At the Midget level we field teams playing a condensed “Short Season” schedule due to high school hockey and academic considerations.
- An extended season Midget team, at an additional cost, may be formed at the end of the Short Season for players wishing to continue playing through March (depending on interest).
- Mite teams will be USA Hockey ADM (American Development Model) compliant.
- Mite and Squirt teams will be formed with an emphasis on the new philosophy with regard to player development. Starting in the 2010-2011 season, wherever scheduling permits, PYHA will replace mid-season non-league games with combined ice small area games practices. The roster size for each mite team will be 10 skaters and up to 2 goalies and 11-12 skaters and up to 2 goalies per Squirt team roster. The amount of teams at each level will depend on the number of players who tryout and the amount of coaches available. Every effort will be made to accommodate all players. Smaller teams and more practice sessions allow players more time with the puck alongside skaters of a similar caliber. Playing small area games in practice promotes better decision making skills with the puck. The concept will also inevitably create less travel (less hassle, burn-out, and general costs per family).
Season Start and End Dates:
- Midget teams will start on or about August 16th and will end on or about November 15th and are subject to a slight extension of time into December if needed to accommodate the league schedule.
- Bantam, Pee Wee and Squirt teams will start on or about August 30th and will end on or about March 6th - 13th.
- Mite teams will start on or about September 13th and will end on or about March 1st.
Tiger Cub participants will register on or about September 1st and will begin in October.
