Princeton Youth Hockey Association

Welcome to Princeton Youth Hockey Association's home on the web.  On this website you will be able to get news, highlights, schedules, game results and more.

We are proud members of USA Hockey, the New Jersey Youth Hockey League and the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League.  We are a Tier II travel hockey program (AA, A and B) that fields teams from 6U through 18U.  We also offer a learn to play hockey program called Tiger Cubs that is designed for players between the ages of 4 and 7.

We are a non-profit, volunteer based organization that is privileged to call historic Baker Rink at Princeton University our home rink.

A message from PYHA President Rich Garlock

Dear new and returning PYHA families,

I hope this finds you and your family safe and healthy.

This is an unprecedented environment as we all adjust to new rules, restrictions, and the uncertainties of what lies ahead.  PYHA and youth hockey in general is no exception to the disruption of our normal routines and the closure of non-essential businesses.

Saturday night, the AAHA distributed a plan to move forward with building rosters for the upcoming season.  The plan creates some challenges that we will thoughtfully navigate, while also providing some flexibility and assurances to families that are currently being more severely affected by the pandemic and shutdown.  As a reminder, AAHA stands for the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association, which is our regional governing district of USA Hockey.  Simply put, AAHA sets the rules.

The gist of the AAHA communication is that youth hockey programs can offer player agreements starting in June.  PYHA and other Tier II programs can extend offers beginning June 11th.  (Note that Tier I (AAA) programs can extend offers beginning June 1st.) AAHA states that there will be no on-ice evaluations prior to extending player agreements. Rinks are still closed, among other logistical issues.

In order for us to be able to offer player agreements, we need to understand who would like to play for PYHA this coming season. Accordingly, we ask that you register your player ASAP.  From this pool of previous and new PYHA players who have registered, we will assemble the likely number of teams and enable us to extend player agreements. These player agreements will allow us to begin initial planning for next season (ice time commitments, etc). Players agreements will be based on appropriate age level only (i.e. 14U, 12U, etc).  When ice and pandemic restrictions allow, we are planning to implement a post-agreement acceptance evaluation to determine appropriate skill level. Ian McNally, our Hockey Director, will implement a process to evaluate all players, and in collaboration with our coaches, determine individual team rosters.  We will communicate that process when we have something tangible to share – we are committed to evaluating players objectively and placing them on skill-appropriate teams where they will best develop.  (Note that we recognize that the timeline for doing all this presents challenges with regard to other sports, vacations, and priorities you may normally have during the summer months.) At the conclusion of the on-ice evaluation players will be placed on their appropriate skill level (i.e. 14UA, 12UAA, etc).

Naturally, all of this leads to a lot of follow up questions and so there will be more emails like this to guide you along the way.  As a not-for-profit, rest assured that if you are a returning PYHA family or new to our program and want to be a Tiger, our organization is committed to your success.

What we need you to do now:

Please register ASAP.    Thank you to all those returning and new players who have already registered!  If you previously registered for Tryouts, you are all set.  If you did not previously register for Tryouts….please register now. Not sure if you’ve already registered, please contact Bode Lee at .

New to PYHA?  We remain interested in taking on new players.  Please remember to include your previous club experience in your registration.  If there are any questions that remain about your player, our Hockey Director will reach out to you. Every effort will be made to provide a home for your players at PYHA.

Should you have any concerns please reach out to our Hockey Director at

You must register by June 8th to be considered for player agreements. The registration fee is $100 for 10U and higher.  8U is $25.  Goaltenders are $0.

Player agreements will be issued starting June 11th. The deposit due at time of committing to PYHA (upon signing the player agreement) will be $400.  As AAHA guidelines indicate, anyone withdrawing by July 31st due to a COVID-19 hardship will receive a full refund.

The deposit due at contract signing is lower than in years past reflecting the uncertainty and scheduling challenges that lie ahead. To further help our families, we are looking at the feasibility of spreading the remaining payments out through October.  The original anticipated season costs are listed on our website. Once we understand the start time and duration of the season that will be allowed, we may adjust the fees lower.  It is our intention to maintain as much flexibility as possible in our commitments to be able to keep schedules, costs, and fees aligned. Upon signing a player agreement, your registration fee will be credited against any fees or tuition owed PYHA for next season. Should you be offered a spot at PYHA and sign with another club, your registration fee is not refundable.

Thank You!

On behalf of the board we appreciate your participation in our PYHA family, and we recognize the trust and confidence you place in us to conduct the hockey program in a fair and efficient manner.  There is a lot that we still need to understand in the weeks and months ahead, but we will continue to work hard to make this a fun and successful program.

Rich Garlock
